Directions of etymological studies

In a short article the German librarian and historian Ernst Förstemann (1852) raises the issue about folk etymology being a new branch of linguistics and outlines three areas of etymological work: folk etymology, scientific etymology and forced etymology.

The present article provides interesting examples of forced etymology in Bulgarian lexicology.
