About the meaning of the word hipster

Observations have been made over the semantic volume of the term hipster in both English and Bulgarian languages. In the English version of the term hipster, the meanings are mostly neutral or jocular, lenient or condescending whereas within the Bulgarian sociocultural context these meanings are stylistically marked as well as connotatively loaded. This is so because in most cases there is irony, condescension, ridicule and insult within these meanings.

Key words: Bulgarian sociocultural space, Bulgarian language, hipster, stylistically marked and connotatively loaded meanings.
