Manuscript no. 97 Kept in the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: Notes on the Dissemination of Paisij of Hilandar’s Slavo-Bulgarian History

The paper juxtaposes textual and linguistic features of a copy of the Slavo-Bulgarian History by Paisij Hilendarski, manuscript no. 97, held in the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, with four manuscripts, belonging to the same text family, namely: Panteleimon’s, Copy of 1809, Vlad Gladichov’s Copy of 1809, Venelin’s Copy of 1838, and the Sremski Karlovci Copy of the first half of the nineteenth century, in order to shed light on the links among these manuscripts. The author argues that the text of MS 97 is close to the Sremski Karlovci Copy and Venelin’s Copy and, in all likelihood, MS 97 was produced in Tarnovo or Tarnovo Region in the late 1830s or early 1840s. One of its scribes introduced several innovations, mostly in lexis.

Key words: Istorija slavjanobolgarskaja, Tarnovo, nineteenth-century Bulgarian language.
