About journal "Balgarska rech"

Journal „Balgarska rech / Bulgarian speach“ is a publication of The Faculty of Slavonic Studies of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky”. The concept of the journal is subordinated to the basic idea that the activity for the improvement of the language culture cannot have a campaigning character. It requires perseverance and joint efforts, and the care for the preservation of our language, for its proper acquisition and use in speech should be a constant task, carried out carefully, persistently and patiently. The aim of the journal is to maintain the interest of the native speakers in the study and knowledge of the Bulgarian language with a view to its correct use.

In the pages of the country's only journal of linguistic culture and linguistics, research is published that scientifically but accessibly reflects:

  • the various aspects of language development and its results;
  • current issues in language culture;
  • the clarification of deviations from the literary-language norm observed in speech practice with a view to overcoming them;
  • the achievements of prominent linguists, both Bulgarian and foreign;
  • anniversaries of meritorious Bulgarian and foreign linguists;
  • reviews of linguistic works whose object of study is the Bulgarian language and its speech realization.

Journal „Balgarska rech / Bulgarian speach“ provides its pages for opinions and recommendations from teachers, lecturers, educators and others who have an interest in literacy and culture.

The profile of the journal is revealed by its permanent sections.

The journal ranks worthily among the emblematic journals of the Faculty of Slavonic Philologies of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky” such as Literature, Comparative Linguistics, Literra et Lingua, Colloquia Comparativa Litterarum (Journal of Comparative Literary Studies and Balkan Studies) and the Yearbook of the Faculty of Slavonic Philologies.

The need for a journal to address and clarify issues of linguistic culture has been realized by all Bulgarian linguists, starting from the time of the formation and codification of our literary language. The journals “Balgarska rech / Bulgarian Speech” and “Rodna rech / Native speech” published in the past are an expression of this need.

The journal “Balgarska rech / Bulgarian Speech”, the first book of which was published in 1995, is not a direct successor to the magazine of the same name published in 1921 and founded by St. Argirov, St. Mladenov, Alexander Theodorov-Balan and B. Tsonev, but it is connected with the aspiration and the desire to increase the interest in the culture of speech, to draw attention to literacy and to the preservation of the Bulgarian verbal wealth.

The founder and first editor-in-chief of the journal is Prof. Dr. Vasilka Radeva.

Since 2018 the editor-in-chief is prof. Nadezhda Stalyanova.
