Authors Guidelines

of the articles in the journal "Balgarska rech"

Introductory words

The authors offer to the editorial team of the journal only original research that has not been published and presented in other journals. Submitting a manuscript to more than one journal is considered unethical behavior.

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the research and have been identified as co-authors.

Authors should prepare their research in accordance with the Requirements for Manuscript Formatting adopted by the Editorial Board for the Processing and Publication of Research, and be responsible for the scientific merit of the concept, the interpretation of data and the significance of the results. The manuscript must acknowledge the funding sources that supported the preparation of the manuscript, if available.

By submitting a manuscript, the author agrees to abide by the requirements and ethical principles for the publication of scientific texts set out in the Guidelines. Authors guarantee the authenticity and originality of their manuscripts, the correct citation of sources used, and accurately present the background data used.

Authors are required to provide necessary clarifications to the text as requested by the editors; to comply with the recommendations of the reviewers and to make necessary corrections to the manuscript if such are recommended. If significant errors are found in the authors' own text, the authors should notify the editors or the publisher and take the necessary steps to correct the omissions or withdraw the material.

A submitted manuscript that does not fit the journal's subject matter or is not formatted according to the Guidelines will be rejected without going through the anonymous review process. The decision to publish or reject a manuscript is based on the opinions of anonymous and independent reviewers.

Layout of the text

Manuscripts may be written in Bulgarian or English depending on the author's preference or on the recommendation of the reviewers evaluating the manuscript.

Recommended length of the manuscript: up to 35 000 characters for a research article or review, and up to 15 000 characters for a review (including breaks between characters).

Manuscript structure: Manuscripts should be structured as follows:

  • title page with an informative and unabbreviated title of the article, followed by the authors' names with their degrees, academic positions and institutions;
  • an abstract that clearly presents the essence of the research conducted, with an emphasis on the novelties and results obtained;
  • 3 - 6 keywords;
  • full text;
  • appendices (if any);
  • acknowledgements (if any);
  • notes and references;
  • title, abstract and keywords in English
  • full business cards of authors with their academic positions, names of universities or scientific organizations, ID number from personal registration in scientific databases, business e-mail and postal address - in English.

The abstract states the purpose of the study, the methodology used, and outlines the new findings and results. The abstract should correspond to the title, keywords and text of the scientific work. The recommended length of the abstract is 150 words.

Papers should be written in Times New Roman, 12 points. If other fonts are used, they must be provided as separate files.

Line spacing should be 1 (one).

There should be 1 free line between the title of a part or subpart and the following text. Part and subpart headings are numbered in Arabic numerals and in bold, 12 p.

Paragraphs and footnotes (10 p.) are to be formatted using the automatic options of Microsoft Word; the use of a tab key is not permitted for paragraph formatting.

Examples should be in italic.

In case of multiple publications by the same author in the same year, an index letter is added after the year, e.g. (Радева 2008a), (Радева 2008b).

If there is more than one author in the reference, they are separated by a comma, e.g. (НИЧЕВА, К., СПАСОВА-МИХАЙЛОВА, С., ЧОЛАКОВА, КР.1975 ).

The figures (illustrations) and their captions are presented separately in an additional file in a format allowing processing with programs and corrections commonly used for such purposes. Exceptionally, when the size of the figures is large and does not allow placement in the main text, their place in the text must be indicated - Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc.

Acknowledgements should appear after the end of the text but before the bibliography. Acknowledgements should be given in both English and English.

Notes and references

At the end of the manuscript is listed ЛИТЕРАТУРА / REFERENCES, which is used and cited in the text (not a bibliography at all on the subject), arranged alphabetically. All sources in the ЛИТЕРАТУРА / REFERENCES must be directly cited in the text and vice versa - all cited sources must appear in the ЛИТЕРАТУРА / REFERENCES.

The formatting of the cited literature follows the basic requirements of Bulgarian State Standard ISO 690:2021.

Archival sources cited and endnotes should be written only in the language of the main text of the manuscript.

References used (if the main text is not in Latin) shall be listed in two separate paragraphs at the end of the manuscript. In the first paragraph the literature is listed in the original. In the second, the content of the previous paragraph is repeated in Latin (either transliterated or in the original).

All sources cited in Cyrillic are then transliterated into Latin in the Latin list.

If the text of the publication is in Cyrillic, the bibliography shall first list the Cyrillic sources under the heading ЛИТЕРАТУРА, and after a blank line list the Latin sources under the heading REFERENCES, with the Latin sources transliterated into Cyrillic included in the list of Latin sources. If the text is in Latin, the cited references list the Latin sources first, including the transliterated Cyrillic sources, followed by a blank line and the Cyrillic sources.
