Substyle and Style: New Research Proposals (Preliminary Notes)

The article presents a research idea related to the (inter)relationships between sub-styles within the style system. Modern reality implies diversity, which accordingly affects genre and text models and their style, of course. Several ideas are presented for the enrichment of some sub-styles and their supremacy within the traditional five-member system of functional styles, which is one of the prerequisites for their formation as an independent style. The idea that the legal sub-style can be separated into an independent group is advocated; and also sthe so-called conversational style needs refinement, as it reflects a very diverse reality; the so-called journalistic style needs to be reassessed, as well, because it reflects a new reality in which the media are so diverse in format and content that they clearly impose the idea of turning sub-style into style.
