The text introduces to the readers the Bulgarian studies at the Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia, presenting the study of Bulgarian linguistics disciplines, especially in a comparative context with other South Slavic languages and Czech. The study examines the transition from the study of linguistic disciplines within the framework of classical philological education in the past to the newer concept of academic education in the so-called areal studies.
